Split a PDF

Break a PDF into one file per page, or into the page ranges you choose. The PDF is split on your device and never uploaded.

    Two ways to split

One PDF per page. Every page becomes a separate PDF. Useful for scanned batches where each page is a different document, such as a stack of receipts or forms scanned in one go.

Page ranges. Type the ranges you want, separated by commas. Each range becomes its own PDF:

    You type You get
    1-3, 4-6 Two PDFs: pages 1–3 and pages 4–6
2 One PDF with only page 2
1, 5- One PDF with page 1, and one with page 5 to the end
10-1 Pages 10 down to 1, in reverse order

A single range gives you a single PDF, which is the quickest way to extract a section of a long document.

    How to use it

    1. Choose One PDF per page or Page ranges, and type the ranges if needed.
    2. Choose your PDF or drop it on the box above.
    3. Download the PDF, or the ZIP when there are several files.

    When splitting helps

    • sending one chapter or section instead of a whole report
    • separating documents that were scanned together
    • getting under an email or upload size limit by sending parts separately
    • pulling out a signed page, a certificate or an invoice from a combined file

    What carries over

Each new PDF contains exact copies of its pages: text, images, fonts and links within the page. Bookmarks from the original aren’t carried over, and if the original was digitally signed, the split files no longer carry a valid signature, which is true of any edit to a signed PDF.

    Removing pages instead

If you want to keep most of a document and drop a few pages, it’s quicker to remove those pages than to split around them. Use the remove pages tool and type the page numbers to delete.

    Questions

How do I extract just a few pages?

Choose Page ranges and type the pages you want as one range, for example 4-6. You get a single PDF containing only those pages.

What do I get when splitting into many files?

A ZIP file containing one PDF per page or per range, named with the original file name and page numbers so they sort in order.

    Is the quality the same?

Yes. Pages are copied into the new files exactly as they were. Nothing is redrawn or compressed.

    Can the ranges overlap?

Yes. Each range becomes its own PDF, so 1-5 and 3-8 gives two files that both contain pages 3 to 5.
