Typical pages to remove
- blank pages from double-sided scanning
- duplicate pages scanned twice
- cover sheets, fax headers and separator pages
- pages with personal details you don’t need to share
- old versions of pages you’re replacing
How to use it
- Type the pages to remove, for example
1,3, 8or10-15. - Choose your PDF or drop it on the box above.
- Download the edited copy, saved with “-edited” added to the name.
The note next to the result confirms how many pages were removed and how many are left.
Removing personal information
Taking out pages is a good way to share only what’s needed, for example sending the pages of a bank statement that show a payment without the rest of your transactions. Removed pages are not in the new file at all: they aren’t hidden or blanked out, they’re gone.
Information on pages you keep is still there. Removing a page doesn’t redact text on other pages; for that you need a redaction tool.
Keeping pages instead of removing them
If you want only a few pages out of a long document, it’s easier to say which pages to keep. Use the split tool with a page range, for example 4-6, to get a PDF with only those pages.
What stays the same
All remaining pages keep their text, images, fonts, links and orientation, and stay in the same order. Bookmarks that pointed to removed pages no longer lead anywhere, and a digital signature on the original stops being valid, as with any edit to a signed PDF.
Finding the pages to remove
In a long scan it can be hard to spot blank or duplicate pages. Two quick ways:
- Use your PDF viewer’s thumbnail sidebar. Most viewers, including the ones built into Chrome, Edge, Safari and Preview, show small page previews with numbers, so blank and repeated pages stand out.
- Convert to images first. Run the PDF through the PDF to JPG converter at 72 DPI to get small, numbered previews of every page, then note the numbers to remove.
Questions
How do I know the page numbers?
Use the page numbers your PDF viewer shows, counting from the first page of the file. Printed page numbers on the document itself can differ, for example when a cover page isn't numbered.
Can I remove several pages at once?
Yes. Separate them with commas and use ranges, for example 2, 5-7, 12 removes five pages in one go.
Is the original file changed?
No. You download a new copy with the pages removed. Your original PDF stays exactly as it was.
Does it make the file smaller?
Usually, yes, especially when the removed pages contain images. Fonts or images shared with the remaining pages stay in the file because those pages still need them.
