Rotate PDF pages

Turn sideways or upside-down PDF pages the right way up and save the result, for every page or only the ones you pick. Nothing is uploaded.

Use numbers and ranges, like 1-3, 5, 8-.

    Why pages end up sideways

    • Scanners and phone scanning apps sometimes guess the orientation wrong, especially for pages with little text.
    • Landscape pages such as spreadsheets and charts get placed in a portrait document.
    • Pages fed upside down into a document feeder.
    • Merged documents where one source was saved the other way round.

    How to use it

    1. Choose the rotation: 90° clockwise, 180°, or 90° anticlockwise.
    2. Type which pages to rotate, or leave the box empty for all pages.
    3. Choose your PDF or drop it on the box above, then download the rotated copy.

Page numbers work like this: 1 for the first page, 2, 4 for pages 2 and 4, 3-6 for a range, and 8- for page 8 to the end.

    Rotation that sticks

Rotating in a PDF viewer is usually temporary: it changes how you see the page, not the file. This tool changes the page’s rotation setting inside the PDF and saves a new copy, so the pages open the right way up for everyone, in every app, and print correctly.

Rotation adds to whatever the page already had. A page that was saved at 90° and rotated 90° here ends up at 180°. If a page doesn’t look right, rotate the result again.

    What stays the same

The content of each page, its text, images, fonts and links, is untouched, and the file size barely changes. Page order stays the same; to reorder, split the PDF and merge the parts in the order you want.

Rotating scanned photos before they become a PDF

If you’re making a PDF from phone photos, the JPG to PDF converter reads each photo’s orientation and places it upright automatically, so you often won’t need to rotate anything afterwards.

    Rotate or re-scan?

Rotating is the right fix when a page is simply turned the wrong way. If a scanned page is slightly crooked, by a few degrees rather than a quarter turn, rotation by 90° won’t help. Re-scanning with the page squared against the scanner glass, or using a phone scanning app that straightens pages automatically, gives a cleaner result.

    Questions

Why does my PDF viewer's rotate button not fix the file?

Most viewers only rotate the view on your screen. When you close the file or send it to someone, the pages are sideways again. This tool saves the rotation in the PDF itself.

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes. Type its number in the pages box, for example 3. Leave the box empty to rotate every page.

    Does rotating reduce quality?

No. Rotation is stored as a page setting, so text and images are left exactly as they are.

How do I rotate different pages in different directions?

Run the tool once for each direction. Rotate pages 2 and 5 by 90° clockwise, download, then open that file and rotate page 7 by 180°.
