    Why convert NEF to JPG

NEF files keep everything the Nikon sensor captured, which is ideal for editing but impractical for sharing. Each file is typically 20–50 MB, and phones, browsers, social networks and many apps can’t open them. JPG is small, universal and ready to post or print.

    You might need this when:

    • sending a selection of photos to friends, family or a client
    • uploading to social media, a portfolio site or an online print service
    • previewing photos on a computer without Nikon NX Studio or a raw editor
    • making quick prints from a shoot

    How to use it

    1. Choose the quality: 90% for keeping detail, 80% for sharing online.
    2. Choose your NEF files or drop them on the box above.
    3. Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.

    How the photo is developed

LibRaw, a widely used open-source raw decoder, reconstructs the full-colour image from the sensor data, converts it to standard sRGB colour and applies the camera’s orientation so portrait shots stand upright. The JPG keeps your camera’s full resolution. No creative adjustments, such as extra contrast, saturation, sharpening or noise reduction, are added.

    Getting the best-looking results

For important photos, edit the NEF in a raw editor first, such as Lightroom, Capture One, darktable or NX Studio, to adjust exposure and white balance, then export. Use this converter when you need fast, faithful JPGs without installing anything.

    Privacy

Photos are processed locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded. Camera settings and GPS data aren’t copied into the JPGs.

    Which NEF files work

Uncompressed, lossless compressed and compressed NEF files are all supported by LibRaw. Very new camera models or Nikon’s newest High Efficiency raw modes may not decode until the decoder is updated; if a file fails, export a JPG from Nikon NX Studio instead.

    Questions

Which Nikon cameras save NEF files?

Practically all Nikon DSLRs and mirrorless Z cameras save raw photos as NEF (Nikon Electronic Format), from early models to current ones.

Will the JPG match the camera's own JPGs?

Not exactly. Nikon cameras apply a Picture Control with their own colour and contrast. This converter develops the raw data neutrally, so photos can look a little softer or flatter. That's expected with raw files.

Can I convert a whole memory card?

Yes. Select or drop many NEF files at once. They're processed one after another so your browser stays responsive, and you can download them all as a ZIP.

Why is the first photo slow?

The page loads ImageMagick with the LibRaw decoder (about 15 MB) the first time. Each photo then takes a few seconds.
