    Why convert CR2 files

Shooting in raw gives Canon photographers the most flexibility for editing, but CR2 files are large (around 20–35 MB each) and can’t be opened by most phones, web browsers, social networks or online forms. Windows and macOS can preview many CR2 files, but sending or uploading them still causes problems. Converting to JPG gives you photos anyone can view.

    Typical reasons:

    • sharing photos from a shoot with friends, family or clients
    • uploading to a website, marketplace or social network
    • quickly checking a memory card’s photos on a computer without raw software
    • making prints at a kiosk or online print service

    How to use it

    1. Choose the JPG quality: 90% keeps fine detail; 80% is fine for sharing online.
    2. Choose your CR2 files or drop them on the box above.
    3. Download each JPG, or all at once as a ZIP.

    How your photo is processed

The raw sensor data is developed with LibRaw:

    • colour from the sensor pattern is reconstructed into a full image
    • colours are converted to standard sRGB
    • the photo is rotated upright using the camera’s orientation sensor
    • the full resolution of your camera is kept

No creative adjustments are made, so you get a neutral, true-to-sensor result.

    Shooting RAW + JPG

Many Canon cameras can save a JPG alongside each CR2. If you only need JPGs for sharing, that saves converting later. Keep the CR2s, though: they let you recover highlights and shadows a JPG can’t.

    Privacy

Your photos are processed in your browser and never uploaded. Camera and location metadata isn’t copied into the JPG.

    Converting a whole shoot

Select every CR2 from a memory card at once. They’re processed one after another, and you can download all the JPGs in a single ZIP. On a computer, expect a few seconds per photo.

    Questions

Which Canon cameras make CR2 files?

Canon EOS DSLRs and some PowerShot models from about 2004 to 2018, such as the EOS 5D Mark IV, 80D, 6D and Rebel series. Newer Canon cameras, including the EOS R range, save CR3 files instead.

Can I convert CR3 files here?

This page is for CR2. CR3 files can be tried with the universal image converter, which accepts many other raw formats.

Why doesn't the JPG look like the camera's JPG?

Canon cameras apply a Picture Style with their own colour and contrast when they create JPGs. This converter develops the raw data neutrally, so it may look slightly flatter. That's normal for raw files.

    How long does it take?

The first conversion loads the raw decoder (about 15 MB). After that, each photo takes a few seconds on a computer and longer on a phone.
