Press Record and allow microphone access when your browser asks.

    How to record your voice

    1. Choose MP3 or WAV, and whether to reduce background noise.
    2. Press Record and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
    3. Speak; the meter shows your input level. Use Pause to take a break in the same recording.
    4. Press Stop. The recording appears below, where you can play it back and download it.

Make as many recordings as you like; each is saved separately with the date and time in its name.

    Getting good sound

    • Stay close. About a hand’s width to an arm’s length from the microphone gives clear speech without breathing noises.
    • Choose a soft room. Curtains, carpets and furniture reduce echo; bare rooms and bathrooms add it.
    • Watch the meter. It should move well into the bar when you speak but not stay full all the time.
    • Use a headset or USB microphone if you have one; built-in laptop microphones pick up keyboard and fan noise.

    MP3 or WAV?

Format Size per minute Best for
MP3 (192 kbps) About 1.4 MB Sharing, messages, uploads, listening
WAV About 5–10 MB (mono or stereo) Editing, transcription software, archiving

    After recording

Trim silence from the start and end with the cut audio tool, make a quiet recording louder with the increase volume tool, or join several takes with merge audio.

    Which devices work?

Any recent browser with a microphone: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone and iPad. On phones, keep the screen on while recording, because some phones pause the microphone when the screen locks.

    Privacy

The recorder uses your browser’s own recording feature, and the MP3 is encoded on your device with LAME, the open-source MP3 encoder. Recordings exist only on your device until you choose to share them.

    Questions

    Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The audio is recorded and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to xconverter or anyone else. You can check this yourself. Make one recording so the page has everything it needs, switch off your internet connection, and record again; it still works.

Why does my browser ask for microphone permission?

Browsers never let a website use your microphone without asking. Allow it to record. You can withdraw permission at any time in your browser's site settings, and the microphone is released as soon as you press Stop.

    How long can I record?

As long as you like; an hour is fine on a computer. The recording is kept in memory until you stop, so very long recordings on a phone with little memory may fail. Save long sessions in parts.

What does "Reduce background noise and echo" do?

It turns on your browser's built-in noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic volume, the same processing used for video calls. It makes speech clearer in a noisy room. Turn it off to record music or sound effects naturally.
