How to turn an MP3 into a video
- Add your audio file (MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC or OGG).
- Optionally add one picture, such as album art, a photo or a podcast cover.
- Press Make video and download the MP4.
How it’s made
The video shows your picture, or a title card, for the full length of the audio. Because the picture doesn’t move, the video uses one frame per second, which keeps the file small: the MP4 is barely larger than the audio itself. Each frame can be jumped to directly, so seeking is instant.
| Part | In the MP4 |
|---|---|
| Picture | 1280 × 720 H.264 video |
| Audio | AAC, high quality |
| Length | Same as the audio |
Uploading to YouTube and social media
- YouTube accepts this MP4 directly; it’s the standard way to post music, podcasts and talks as video.
- Instagram and Facebook accept it as a video post or Reel. For Reels, a vertical picture looks better.
- WhatsApp sends it as a video. Long audio makes a big file, so trim it first if needed.
Choosing a good picture
Use an image at least 1280 pixels wide so it looks sharp in HD. Square album covers work well; the edges are filled with a blurred copy of the picture so there are no black bars.
Long audio
Because the picture never changes, the video adds very little to the file size: an hour-long podcast makes an MP4 only slightly larger than the audio. Creating it takes a little while for long files, since the whole soundtrack is processed; keep the tab open until it finishes.
Privacy
The video is created in your browser using its built-in video encoder and Mediabunny, an open-source media library. Your audio and picture are never uploaded.
Questions
Why convert MP3 to MP4?
YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and most social sites only accept video files, not audio. Putting your audio on a still picture turns it into a video they accept, which is how songs, podcasts and audiobooks are usually posted.
Do I need a picture?
No. Without one, the video shows a clean title card with the audio file's name. Add a JPG or PNG, such as cover art or a photo, to show that instead.
What size is the video?
1280 × 720 (HD), with the picture fitted inside without cropping and a blurred copy filling the edges. The picture is shown for the whole length of the audio.
Is the audio quality kept?
The audio is saved as AAC, the standard sound format for MP4, at high quality. M4A and AAC files are copied without re-encoding.
